SEO Techniques That Really Work

SEO techniques are a dime-a-dozen nowadays, and there is certainly no shortage of ways by which you can squeeze every last chance of getting a high Google ranking out of your website. However, launching a proper SEO campaign can seem like a monumental task, especially if this is your first time to embark on such a quest. To make it easier for you to dip your toes into the murky waters of SEO, we offer you these proven SEO techniques.

Think of SEO from the ground up.

Instead of focusing all of your attention on making your site look as good as possible and then somehow “shoe horning” your SEO into the mix, you might get better results by designing with SEO in mind right from the start. Keep in mind that search engines aren’t going to be as impressed with fancy graphics and complex layouts as some humans are, so keep the graphics and content balanced. The best graphics in the world won’t help your site much if the search engine spiders cannot find your site, so always design with the search engines in mind.

The title tag is one of the most important parts of your site from an SEO standpoint. This typically contains text that describes the site or gives a clear indicator of the contents of the page. Unless you own a major multinational corporation with a very recognizable household name, the chances of people finding your site by typing in your company name directly are slim to none. You will therefore probably get more mileage by using keywords relevant to your site’s content or to the products and/or services that you have to offer.

Canonicalization is another important concern when mounting an SEO campaign. This procedure involves deciding whether or not to include the “www” prefix to the address of your site. If you decide to use the “www” make sure that the “non-www” version leads potential visitors back to your site. In order to avoid confusing your visitors, you should choose only one version or the other, and always use your preferred choice anywhere you have to place a link to your site.

Keep your pages as simple as possible without sacrificing usefulness or readability. It would probably be best to avoid using too many drop-down menus, complicated image maps, and too many images altogether. In addition to being outdated and clunky, such elements may also reduce your site’s chances of being picked up by the search engine spiders. If you absolutely must have these elements on your site, keep their usage to a bare minimum and include appropriate text links that the search engine spiders will be able to pick up.
